Pregnancy Confessions

I have a confession to make about being pregnant.

I did NOT enjoy it!

It always amazes me when a woman says "I LOVE(D) being pregnant!" and if you are one of these women, more power to you!
After waiting almost 3 years to finally see that word "pregnant" on a test, I had high hopes that the next 40 weeks would be one of the best experiences of my life. It was and it wasn't. There were a few things that I did enjoy about being pregnant but for the most part, it wasn't the "best" experience for me.

Here are some reasons why I didn't enjoy it:

1. My INSANELY HORRIBLE morning, afternoon, and night sickness my first trimester that also stuck around my whole pregnancy. Not being able to eat anything and throwing up what little I did manage to get down was not fun.

2. The constant pain I was in starting at week 10, whether it be my back, my round ligament pain, sciatic nerve, popping a rib out of place- you name it, I had it and didn't enjoy it.

3. Not sleeping well and struggling to just roll over off of one painful hip to the other. I know everyone doesn't sleep great while they are pregnant, but I am one woman that LOVES her sleep! lol

4. This one may sound strange but I actually did not enjoy when I was finally able to feel P move. It did not feel like little butterflies like everyone said it would. It almost felt like a burning sensation for me and it was not enjoyable! I was thankful when that stage was over and I was really able to feel her kick, punch, and roll.

5. I am a HUGE neck and back popper! It grosses other people out but I don't care because it feels SOOO GOOD! As my pregnancy went on, my back was so stiff and I knew that one good pop would fix it and it just wouldn't happen. Not fun!

Again, I did enjoy some things about pregnancy though.

1. Of course I enjoyed the thought of growing that little bean and seeing her on the ultrasounds.

2. Feeling those kicks, punches, hiccups, and rolls and knowing that things are going well.

3. Hearing that heartbeat for the first time and all those many times after.

4. My face was the clearest it has been since, shoot, I can't remember when my face was that clear last! lol

5. My legs hair grew SOOO slow and it was fabulous since I rarely had to shave and that was so nice when that belly got so large that it was hard to bend over to shave! lol

Obviously, I LOVE what I got in the end of this pregnancy.

It was definitely all worth it but I just pray that if and when pregnancy #2 occurs, that it will go better than this one and I will enjoy it a little more.

I hope I'm not the only one that didn't enjoy being pregnant!
Please, tell me I'm not alone!

  1. I firmly believe that pregnacies differ from boys and girls. I had all of your issues with my boys (hated it!), but my girl was amazing, no sickness, no uncomfortable, I didn't blow up like a baloon. I loved it. lol So strange.

  3. LOL....there is a lot of challenges to go through! But I am one of those that LOVE being pregnant.....even with the sickness and other stuff. I glowed! But you are correct....in the end any issues you had are forgotten and you are thankful for that little one. She is so pretty.

  5. Thank you for this post! I am currently pregnant with my third child and sometimes I feel I am the only one out there that does not enjoy being pregnant. So when people ask me I just feel like I have to tell them I love it or else they think I am selfish or something. Good news is it is true what they say in every pregnancy is different, when you are ready for #2 you will be surprised at the differences, even my two boys were completely different pregnancies. I am with you in I would much rather get to the outcome of the precious little baby then to have to go through all the ups and downs of pregnancy. Enjoy your little girl!!

  6. I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant with Baby Boy #3 and not enjoying it. Sick until 16 weeks, ligament pain, leg cramps, migraines, not sleeping, and having a hard time breathing all the time 'cause Baby Boy's hanging out in my lungs. Not to mention, being completely miserable in the Central CA daily 100+ weather. So no, you're definitely not alone. It's worth it all in the end though. :)

  7. Oh you are not alone! I did not enjoy my first pregnancy and I am pregnant with #2....it is worse than #1 and I love getting a baby at the end of it all but hate being pregnant!!!!!! haha.

  8. You are soooo not alone. I had "morning" sickness the whole pregnancy. I also had fainting spells so I wasn't able to go anywhere alone. The last couple months I had to sleep sitting up with Tums under my pillow because the heartburn was excruciating! I had a 26 hour labor then finally a c-section because she couldn't fit vaginally.

Naturally, she was worth everything ever misery. But, I did not enjoy being pregnant!

  9. You're definitely not alone! I didn't enjoy it either!! My mom always wondered what was wrong with me because she just LOOOVED being pregnant, and couldn't understand why I didn't! I had morning sickness all day and night for my entire pregnancy. So I didn't eat much. I had the weird rib popping problem too, so painful and uncomfortable. And I think I'm really weird because it was painful for me when she kicked and moved!! I liked the flutters, but after that it started to hurt. She was super tiny so maybe she wasn't all squished in there and had extra room to really stretch out and give me a good kick ;) And the heartburn... HORRIBLE!! I had a hard time doing much of anything while pregnant so I'm really hoping round 2 goes better as well!

  10. I was right there with you. After trying to get pregnant for 2 years I was thrilled, but the months of feeling horrible definitely were not enjoyable. I had hyperemisis graverdium (extreme morning sickness) that often needed IVs with two of my pregnancies. At times, when it was really bad, I just wanted it to stop. Luckily it did eventually end, and my babies were here. Now they are all preteens and teens. EEK! There were some things about being pregnant that I did like, but also many things that I didn't.

  11. I'm baking boy #3 right now and while it's been physically unpleasant like the others, I still love it!

Regardless of whether you love it or hate it, you got through it and produced a gorgeous little girl. Good work, Mama!
