Look at me... sharing another tutorial! :)
And this won't be the only one this week.
I had this idea to make these little snowmen one day out of the blue.
Super simple project and would be excellent to do with some kiddos and let them dress their snowman any way they want too.
Here is the how to:
(WARNING: SUPER picture heavy!!)
-Styrofoam Balls in 3 different sizes. I bought 4", 3", and 2" inch balls and the harder more condensed Styrofoam that even had a hole pre drilled for a dowel rod.
-Super Mini Pom-Poms
-Low Temp Hot Glue Gun or other craft glue (be sure it is low temp otherwise you will melt your Styrofoam)
Take your exacto knife and trim of the bottom of the largest ball.
This way you will have a flat bottom for your snowman to stand upright.
Next, take your dowel rod and push it through the center of the middle ball of your snowman.
Place a litte bit of glue onto the dowel and then insert it into the largest ball.
After joining those two balls, you should still have some of the dowel sticking out the top of the middle ball.
Add more glue to the dowel rod and place the smallest ball on top.
Assemble as many snowmen as you would like.
I made 3- one for Travis, one for me, and one for Miss P.
Now time to add some glitter for texture!
I bought two different glitters both in Crystal.
One was a tinsel glitter and the other is regular coarse glitter.
Cover your balls in Mod Podge or other glue you have on hand
Sprinkle on your glitter.
I started with the coarse glitter then put a layer of the tinsel glitter on top of the coarse glitter.
I did NOT add more glue.
The coarse glitter didn't cover the glue entirely so the tinsel glitter stuck just fine.
Cover all the snowmen you created and set aside to fully dry.
I didn't want me snowmen to go naked so I pulled out some felt and pom-poms and got to work creating hats and scarves for each of them and giving them faces.
First up: My Snowman
For the scarf:
I just cut a strip of felt out.
Trimmed the edges with my pinking shears and then pulled the felt to make it longer.
Then I just tied it onto the neck of my snowman.
For the hat:
Cut out a long strip of felt again. I then used my pinking shears of the edge for more detail.
Then you will need 2 circlesof the same size... not just the one.
Plus some twine and poly fill.
Place a small bit of polyfill in the center of your largest circle.
Glue down the other circle on top covering the polyfill leaving a small edge.
Then, glue the strip of felt onto the small edge left slightly covering the edge of the top circle.
I then took some twine and hot glued it along the top edge of the strip of felt to clean up the edge.
Hot glue onto the head of your snowman.
Time to add your face:
I took two of the small orange pom-poms and glued them together to make a "carrot."
Use black pom poms for the eyes and mouth, plus some buttons down the front.
Glue your "carrot" on as well.
Time for Travis' snowman:
I used blue felt to create the scarf for his snowman.
How to make the top hat:
You will need:
Two circles- one large circle and one small circle.
Long strip of felt.
And more polyfill.
Take the smallest circle and add hot glue to the very edge of it.
Glue the strip of felt to the edge, glueing the two ends together as well.
You will have a hollow top part to your hat.
Place polyfill on the inside so it doesn't smash down.
Then glue the top portion to your hat, to the large circle.
Glue your top hat onto your snowman.
I added the pom-poms in the same way for the face and buttons.
And now for Miss P's snowman.
Pink felt for the scarf.
How to make the little sunhat.
You will need"
2 circles: 1 large with edges cut with pinking shears and a smaller one.
Place the polyfill in the center of the large circle and glue the smaller circle on top, again leaving an edge.
Kinda looks like a ravioli.
Glue your twine down to cover up and make a nicer edge.
I then made some SUPER tiny rosettes with the felt and glued them to the hat.
Glue to your snowman.
Use the pom- poms again to make the face.
I only used one orange pom pom for the nose this time (baby needs a baby carrot ;) hehe)
And then only used two pom poms for the mouth instead of three.
They sure do make a cute little family.
If you would like to add arms/branches, you can use some wire.
Just cut some pieces and wrap and shape them into a branch.
I chose to leave my arms off.
I think they turned out super cute and make a cute, fun winter edition to my console table.
Linking up to some of these parties.
