I needed to finally get my butt in gear and decorate my mantle so I thought I would make something.
And this is what I created.
I'm thrilled with it!
I really liked how the Stats board looked over the mantle for Miss P's birthday party so I decided to reuse the board to make the pallet art.
Here's how I did it:
I first had to peel off ALL the vinyl that was on it.
I then sanded the board down with a sanding block because when I pulled off the vinyl, some of the wood peeled up as well.
Next, I took to my computer and Picmonkey to figure out exactly what I wanted.
I did a few different versions with different colors to decide which I liked best.
Once I had what I liked, it was time to get to work on the large scale.
I used my Silhouette Machine to cut vinyl to make stencils.
Once everything was cut, I placed all the vinyl on my board where I wanted it.
I took a foam stencil brush to fill in the white on the letters.
I tried not to add too much paint because I wanted minimal bleeding which I knew would occur because of the texture and grain of some of the wood pieces.
When I filled in all the letters, I let it dry for a few minutes then peeled off the vinyl so it would get stuck with the paint.
Then it was time to paint the bike.
I used an actually paint brush to paint the bike and carefully painted two different colors on it.
I peeled off the vinyl once the paint on the bike was dry but decided it looked a little flat and I wanted more color.
So I pulled out more paint and got to work!
I started by painting a basket onto the bike and filled it full of colorful flowers.
I then added some highlights and low lights to the bike for added depth and I love how it all came out!
After the whole sign was complete and the paint was dry, I took a sander to the sign to give it more of a distressed, weathered look.
Here is an upclose shot of the sanded words.
And here is a close up shot of the sanded bike.
I placed it back on the mantle and it looks great!
I just randomly placed a few items on the mantle with it but I am still working on the final arrangment.
I am loving the new sign though! :)
