Now that we have a mantle, I'm excited to decorate it for different holidays and seasons.
I decided to go ahead and decorate it for Valentine's Day since it comes so quickly in February so we could enjoy it a little longer.
I wanted to make some garland to hang on the mantle so I picked up some supplies at Hobby Lobby and got to work.
There are SOOOOO easy and simple to make! I created both of them under 30 mins which is fabulous since I was trying to make them during nap time. Plus, they are cheap to make too! Wooo!
Here is how to make each of them.
-Pom-Poms in your choice of colors
-Twine or String
-Sewing Needle (I used a tapestry needle so it had a larger eye.)
Put the twine through the needle.
I didn't put a knot in the twine since it was so thick and since I would be pushing it through the center of the pom-poms, I didn't want a knot stopping the twine.
Push the needle through the pom-pom and slide it into position.
If you are using multiple colors, you can create a pattern as you add them to the twine.
Space the pom-poms however you would like. I spaced mine about an inch apart and decided I could adjust them later if I wanted too.
I made my garland about 80 inches long because I wanted to swag it but you can do any length you want.
Once I hung it, I did cut it slightly to shorten it. I rather have extra than it be too short.
-2 packages of Felt Heart ornaments (found in the Valentine Day section at Hobby Lobby)
You could always cut your own hearts out of felts as well.
The hearts came with ribbon already tied on them so I decided to use that to my advantage.
I cut off the little knot on the end and then placed the ribbon around the twine.
I tied a new knot and then cut off the long ends of the ribbon.
The package of hearts came in a few colors so I placed them in the ombre pattern they were in the package.
I just spaced the hearts about an inch apart again planning on spacing them out accordingly once it is hung.
I used some super small Command Hooks to hang them on the mantle.
I swagged the pom-pom garland and then just hung the heart straight across.
I also had to trim down the heart garland once I hung it.
I messed with the spacing once they were hung and was happy with how it looked.
And I LOVE THEM! :)
Here is a sneak peak at my finished mantle.
I didn't want it to look too over the top and I am very happy with how it came out!
Plus, I made quite a few things that were simple and cheap projects so stay tuned for a few other projects.
