Easy Felt Rainbow Garland

I have another easy garland for you today.
I don't have a lot of decorations for St. Patrick's Day and I thought I would try to make a few things for it this year just for fun.

I was out shopping one day and picked up some felt in the colors of the rainbow for a garland and this is what I created.

Again, this is super easy and took me less than 30 mins to create it.
I've seen something similar on Our Humble Abode but can't find the tutorial now.

Here is how I made it.
-Felt in the colors of the rainbows
-Sewing Machine

I started by cutting 1 inch strips, the width of the felt. I only cut three of each color and this was plenty for me to create the length I needed.
You may only need 2 strips or you may need more. It all depends on the length of your garland or how many you are making.

Next, I folded each strip equally in thirds.
In each fold, I cut with the scissors to create 3 smaller strips.

Here is a shot of the 3 smaller strips.

I continued cutting each color giving me 9 small strips of each color.

Next, pull out your sewing machine so you can connect all the them.
I left a decent amount of thread at the beginning of the garland to tie it on something if need be.
I started with a red piece of felt and sewed a line directly in the center of it. I then continued to sew passed the felt strip to create a small gap between the next color. Then, I placed an orange piece of felt under the foot and sewed through it.
I continued this process following the colors of the rainbow- ROYGBIV.

Once I completed the first set of colors and I repeated them.

I continued sewing until I used all the felt pieces also leaving a good amount of thread at the end.

I hung it on the mantle, leaving a tail on each end, instead of tying it onto my hooks.

Since they are just sewn straight threw the center, they kinda just lay however they like and I'm cool with that. I like that they just flap around in the breeze when the heat turns on.

I'm happy with how it came out and since it was a fast and cheap project, it was even better.

This would be super cute in different shades of greens as well.
And you could easily adjust this for any holiday or time of year! Think pinks and reds for Valentine's day, red and green for Christmas, Oranges and black for Halloween-- so many different choices!!

Now, just to figure out some other fun stuff to add to the mantle.

  1. Super cute and the perfect rainbow colors for St. Patty's Day. Great job!

  2. So adorable!!!! and you are so right....easy, fast and cheap projects are the best. :)

I love to receive and read your comments. It just makes my day! :)
