DIY Flower Painted Clock

You guys, it is the last day of August!! SAY WHAT?!
Is it really just me or has this year flown? How is it already September? How is it going to be fall? How is it that we only are a few months out from the crazy holiday season beginning and Christmas?
 Totally crazy to me!

Miss P starts pre-k tomorrow, AHHHH, so we've been in school prep mode in our house but that hasn't stopped me from squeezing in another project for this month's Craft with Me post.
I wanted a clock in our kitchen above the door. I bought one but it didn't fit the small space so I decided to make one.

You can make many different versions of clocks and use many different items but here is how I created mine.

Hexagon Box Shelves

Boy, I've been slacking on this whole blog gig lately haven't I?
I'm an Olympics junkie and I may have watched it all day everyday and during that time, I also worked on some projects around the house or got my paint on painting some canvases to just let my creative juices out with the pressure to blog about it. I still may show you paintings because I am excited about them and if you follow me on Instagram, you have seen them already.

But anyways...I did work on this during my absent and finally got it up on the wall the other day so I was able to take photos of it.

These were super simple and quick too!

Freezer Cooking - a tutorial of sorts

If your family is anything like mine...they like to eat. And well, it's good to eat. We need energy in the form of food in order to function properly. When we eat the right food we function even better! So, it's important with me working now that I find a way for my family to eat well while being easy and simple to prepare.
Enter the slow cooker!! We use the slow cooker a LOT around here and I'm so grateful for the many recipes floating around in the web-o-sphere. I'm also grateful for the Fix-It and Forget-It 5 ingredient favorites: Comforting slow cooker recipes book that a lady from church gave me. This book has been used many many times and I plan to keep using it until we decide to stop using the slow cooker to make dinner (and with me working that won't be anytime soon). To only need 5 ingredients saves me a ton of time and money. These recipes are easy to throw together in the morning when I'm hanging out with my two little helpers before I head to work. Then when we get home all we have to do is fix a simple side, of which I plan to stock the fridge with on the weekends...like rice and veggies or whatever.
If you haven't started using  your crock-pot as a way to save you time and money (you won't have to eat out as much) then let me encourage you to do so. It's really rather simple and doesn't take too much prep work.

DISCLAIMER: This is simply MY experience. Everyone has their own way of shopping, preparing meals and ideas on what is okay to serve their families. These are the things that work for MY family. They may not work for you, they may give you ideas of something you could implement but they are not a rule for your family.

MHCT&M- Decor: Adding Dimension to Walls

Welcome to another week of Must Have Craft Tips hosted by Michele from The Scrap Shoppe, Bev from Flamingo Toes, Allison from A Glimpse Inside, and me, Kara from Mine for the Making!
This month we are sharing tips for decorating!

Must Have Craft Tips and More

Today I am going to share five tips on adding dimension to walls in your home.
Adding dimension to your walls gives you a focal point or accent that really makes a room POP! Giving a room a little something extra on the walls could really make all the difference in home decorating.
  adding dimension
  1.  Add vinyl to a wall.
Adding vinyl to a wall is a great option, especially if you are in a rental home or if you like to change your mind a lot with decorating (me! me!). It's an simple way to add dimension to walls in any room of your home. The patterns can be as minimal or as intricate as you want. My favorite place to get vinyl for home decor is Walls Need Love. Cuban Quesadillas

Hi everyone! Who here needs a little cheesy goodness in their lives? I think I've put together something that will satisfy that need. When cooking, one of my favorite things to do is combine flavors and techniques from my favorite cuisines. I guess you could call it fusion cooking, but it’s just on a home level.

One of the things that really pair well together is a quesadilla and a Cuban pressed sandwich. In all fairness, pretty much anything is delicious in quesadilla form, but Cuban sandwich flavors work particularly well. The ingredients are simple to find, if you don’t have them on hand already, and they can be on the table in under 10 minutes. Paired with a little fruit salad or maybe even a cup of soup, these are perfect for lunch or dinner anytime.

Cuban Quesadillas

4 large Flour Tortillas
4 teaspoons Dijon Mustard
8 slices Deli Ham
4 ounces Swiss Cheese, sliced or shredded
1/4 cup Dill Pickle, chopped
1/4 cup Red Onion, finely chopped
Oil for brushing
Kosher Salt

Preheat a skillet or a grill pan over medium heat. Place one flour tortilla on a flat surface and spread with 1 teaspoon of the mustard. On half of the tortilla, layer on a little cheese, the ham, a Tablespoon of chopped pickle, and a Tablespoon of the onion. Finish with a little more cheese and fold over to close, pressing down lightly to help the ingredients stick together.

Brush the outside with a little oil and sprinkle lightly with kosher salt. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and ingredients. Place in the preheated skillet and cook until the cheese is melted and the outsides are crisp, about 3 minutes per side.

Remove from skillet and let sit for 2 minutes before cutting, so you don’t lose all the yummy oozing cheese. Happily devour with the side dish of your choice, or enjoy them on their own!

You can also make these ahead if you’re making them for a party or if you want to get ahead on your meal prep. Just assemble each quesadilla and place in the fridge, covered, until you are ready to cook. Then preheat the skillet, brush each quesadilla, and season with kosher salt and cook as directed. Enjoy!

MHCT&M: Home Decor- 3M Command Hooks

Hello, friends! It's Friday AND a new month so that means it's time for a new topic for Must Have Craft Tips & More!

Every Friday my friends (Bev at Flamingo Toes, Kara at Mine for the Making, and Allison at A Glimpse Inside) and I (Michele at The Scrap Shoppe) bring you a brand new craft tip pertaining to a specific topic of the month.
This month's topic is Home Decor! That's a pretty broad topic so there's no telling what you will see.

Must Have Craft Tips: Use 3M Command Hooks to hang awkard home decor items!

I'm going to be focusing on 3M Command Hooks and how you can use them to covertly hang your home decor items.
They come in such a variety of sizes and colors that you can use them just about anywhere in your home! I love them especially for my mantel as I am about to show you.

Must Have Craft Tips: Use 3M Command Hooks to hang awkard home decor items!
As I said, the mantel is my favorite place to sneak in some 3M hooks. I place them right on top of each end of my mantel to hang garland. I use the large white ones that can actually pop off of the adhesive tab if you want them to. This is perfect for when I don't have a big garland hanging. The tab is virtually invisible without the hook, as you can see.

Must Have Craft Tips: Use 3M Command Hooks to hang awkward home decor items!
The hooks are perfect for hanging bulky garland!
I place the hooks on each end and one in the middle to get the look above. I also use the clear hooks to hang our Christmas stockings. They get hidden behind the garland if hung from stocking holders dangling from the top of the mantel so I started hanging them right on the face of the fireplace. I think it looks a lot better!

Must Have Craft Tips: Use 3M Command Hooks to hang awkard home decor items!
Here are a few other clever ways to use 3M hooks for your holiday decorating.

Must Have Craft Tips: Use 3M Command Hooks to hang awkard home decor items!
And here are some pretty ingenius ideas for subtly using 3M hooks in other areas of your home decor. I particular love the upside down hook for hanging wreaths. That's so smart for a closet or cabinet!

Easy S'mores Brownies

This post is brought to you my Homeright. All opinions are 100% my own. This post does contain an affiliate link.

Summer is winding down, some of your kiddos may have already started school, but that doesn't mean that the summer fun has to stop immediately. With the cooler weather of Autumn looming in the near future, time around a fire with family will continue for some time.

S'mores are a favorite of mine. I mean really, who doesn't like a good s'more?

With the girls as little as they are, it is a messy time making and eating them over a fire but we still want some sort of treat so why not combine s'mores with brownies?!

These are so easy and you can easily change them up if you'd like!

Ingredients:
-Favorite Brownie mix or recipe
-Mini Marshmallows
-Graham crackers
-Hershey bars

If you'd like, replace the Hershey bars with Peanut Butter Cups, M&Ms, or whatever your favorite candy is!

"Recipe for a Happy Family" Printable

We are still finishing up our kitchen makeover.
The new counters we ordered will be installed next week, YAY!, and then we will be able to put up the new back splash. We started work on our island and now I just have to run out to the store to pick up one last thing so I can start painting it.

So in the meantime, I am still trying to figure out how I want to decorate the joint. I have a good idea of what I'm doing, and have some of it completed already, just need to finish up a thing or two.

I bought this awesome wall piece with baskets and as I started decorating it, decided I wanted to put some sort of printable in it. With it being a kitchen, and since most kitchens are the heart of the home, I thought how about some cool recipe printable. After looking around a bit I decided a recipe on a happy family would be perfect!

I found a few I liked and designed my own off of those versions and I love how it turned out!

This is so easy and can be made even easier if you just print it out and frame it but here is how I created my version.

Supplies:
-Thin cardboard (I used an empty cereal box)
-Scrapbook paper
-Paper cutter
-Double sided tape
-Laminated Burlap (I bought mine at Wal-Mart in the craft department)
-Brads or buttons (optional)
